Father: William Schmitz Mother: Catherine Neu `````````````````````` Notes from family: Frances, or as we know her today as Aunt Francie, is blessed with a sense of humor and wonderful spirit. She was only a year old when the family came to Texas. She recalls, as a girl, Grandpa would have her working in the fields along with the boys. She likes to tell the story of one hot day in the cotton patch, the boys were engaged in a heated bollie fight, knocking much of the cotton to the ground. Uncle John ordered her to pick it up and when she refused, he used a cotton.stalk to spank her with. In her own words recently, she said, "one of these days I'm still going to tell John I'm mad at him." She recalls that one year the family picked 50 bales of cotton. Aunt Francie was born in Halbur, Iowa on November 23, 1897. The first World War was a time of distress for Aunt Francie, as her beloved fiance, Phillip Metzler, was one of the first young men to be called to serve in the United States Army in their war against germany. He served in France and England and later was sent to serve in the occupation army in Germany. He returned home in August 1917 and on November 11, 1918, Francie and Phillip Metzler were married in a double marriage ceremony along with her brother Henry and Anna Rudwaldt, in Lindsay. Uncle Phillip and Aunt Francie had six sons and were delighted with the arrival of two daughters. Virginia Metzler Noggler is the youngest grandchild. They also have 36 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. Both are in good health and and are enjoying their home in Lindsay.
