My great great grandfather is the son of Jeptha Norton and Mary A. McNamee Young of South Carolina and Alabama. When Nort was 11 his father enlisted in the Confederate Army, March 5, 1862, Company C; 31st Mississippi Infantry, Army of Tennessee under Captain J. L. S. Hill, Chickasaw Co., Mississippi. He was killed at the Battle of Franklin, at Franklin, Tennessee Nov 30, 1864, when Nort was 14. There is no record of his mother remarrying, and she was living in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi per the 1880 census, which lists her as a widow. Nort is the sixth great grandson of Peregrine White , who was born Nov 20, 1620 on the Mayflower in Provincetown Harbor, the first child born to the Pilgrims in the New World. He married Henrietta Mary Ellen Tharp Young April 7, 1871 in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi. The following children were born in Houston, Chicksaw, Mississippi: James Noah Young - great grandfather William Love Young Miles Ealon Young Dollie Ann Young Yarbrough The following children were born in Milam Co. Texas where they lived after about 1882: Veldimer Jack Young Jasper Claude Young Katy Beulah "Kitty" Young Sheppard Cordye Bell Young Ward Vera Pearl "Texie" Young Bryant Herren James Monroe Young William Dewey Young. Their child, Veldimer Jack Young, died at age 7 mo. in 1884. Nort died at the age of 77 in Nolvanville, Bell Co., Texas.
