Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, May 7, 1942; pg. 1 Svoboda - Svoboda On Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Deweese Catholic Church with Rev. Otto Ekhamal officiating, Miss Julia Svoboda was united in marriage with Wallace S. Svoboda. Brides maids were Miss Margaret Skalka and and Miss Helen M. Svoboda while Groomsman ware Anthony Svoboda and Ralph Hoelting. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. M. Svoboda of Deweese and the groom is the son of Joe M. Svoboda of Lawrence. While haying the same name the two families are unrelated. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the brides parents for immediate members of the families and close relations. In the evening a wedding dance was held at Pariah Hall, Lawrence to which the public was invited and a large crowd responded. The newlyweds will be at home on a farm 3 miles north and 1 mile west at Lawrence. Many friends wish their complete happiness ======================== Julia Velma Svoboda, 95, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, NE. Julia was born November 12, 1916 to Joseph and Stella (Karmazin) Svoboda near Deweese, NE. Julia graduated from the Deweese (NE.) High School in 1935. She moved to Lawrence, NE. and later she moved to Hastings, NE. in 1964, then moving to Perkins Pavilion, GSS in 2008 due to health reasons. Julia married Wallace Svoboda on May 5, 1942 at the Deweese Assumption Church in Deweese, NE, Wallace passed away November 29, 1949. Julia was a member of the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings, NE. She was a homemaker and also worked at Ruby's Eastgate Café in Hastings, NE. She loved baking, quilting, gardening and flowers. Julia is survived by: daughters, Delores Pohlmeier and husband Don of Lawrence, NE. and Eileen Nejezchleb and husband Ron of Glenvil, NE.; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother Irvin Svoboda of Blue Hill, NE.; sister-in-law, Mildred Svoboda of Grand Island, NE. and a host of relatives and friends. Julia was preceded in death by parents; husband, Wallace Svoboda; brother, Tony Svoboda and infant grandson, James Pohlmeier. Graveside services were at the Deweese Cemetery in Deweese, NE.
