The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE), Friday, November 5, 1915; pg. 2 SVOBODA - KARMAZINE (sic) WEDDING A pretty wedding occured (sic) Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, when Stella, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karmazine (sic) was united in marriage to Joe F.M. Svoboda. The ceremony was performed in the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary church (sic), Rev. Victor Mlynek officiating. It was attended by members of the families and a large concourse of people. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride, followed by a wedding dance. The bride was gowned in white tafeta (sic) silk and the groom wore the conventiona (sic) black. Henry Herbeck (sic) was best man and Julia Karmazine (sic), sister of the bride, and Leda Karmazine (sic), cousin of the bride, were maids of honor. They were gowned in blue silk covered with shadow lace. The groomsmen were Anton Skalka and Joe Drudik. The bride spent her girl hood days in this vicinity. The groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Svoboda, a prosperous farmer, and has lived near Deweese all his life. After a month's trip to Detroit, Mich., and other points of interest, Mr. and Mrs. Joe F.M. Svoboda will be at home Dec. 1st, on a farm three and one-half miles southeast of Deweese, where every things is in readiness for a happy prosperous life. ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, September 15, 1955 Obituary - Svoboda Joseph F.M. Svoboda, a prominent resident of the Lawrence and Deweese communities for nearly his entire lifetime, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4 at his home in Deweese after a month's illness at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 15 days. He was the son of Frank and Marie Svoboda and was born in Detroit, Mich., Dec. 19 (sic), 1888. He came with his parents to Nebraska at the age of six months. He was united in marriage to Stella Karmazin Oct. 26, 1915, at Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese. They settled on a farm south of Deweese until they retired at Deweese in 1949. Mr. Svoboda was an able and intelligent farmer and in common with others of his generation. He was a good provider for his family. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Julia Svoboda of Lawrence, Tony of Deweese and Irvin of Holstein; three grandchildren and one brother, Valentine of Grand Island. Mr. Svoboda was a practial (sic) and active member of the Deweese Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the home. Requiem mass was said at the Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese at 9 a.m. Sept. 7, with Father Edward Valasek officiating. The pallbearers were: John Karmazin, Lawrence Drudik, Frank Svoboda, George Herbek, Anton Skalka and Joe M. Svoboda. Burial was in the Deweese Catholic Cemetery.
