Bio

John Wesley Pringle was the twenty-third child of John A. Pringle, but the eleventh child of John and second wife Mary Susan Overstreet Pringle. John Wesley was born near Marion or Meridan, Lauderdale Co. MS during the Civil War. It is thought that John Wesley was named for an older brother who died just weeks before the Union Federal Prison at Memphis, TN. John A. & Susan Pringle with at least 13 children migrated from MS to Texas in about 1867, when entering East Texas the family contracted some illness. John & wife Susan and several children died and were buried in the wilderness, exact place unknown. The surviving 8-9 children made their way to Limestone Co. TX, where family members and friends took the orphaned children in and raised each until they married and began their own families. Known surviving children in Texas were: Matthew James, Samuel Sylvester 'Ceb', William Alexander 'Bud', George Kennady, Sarah Catherine 'Katy', Mary Alice, John Wesley & Lela Pringle. John Wesley was raised by W.T. 'Tommy' Yates in Falls Co. TX. John's son Eugene Britton Pringle told this family history at his home in Kosse in 1972, while building a pole barn at age 74. John Wesley and Fannie had ten children, seven sons & three daughters, two of which died as infants. John Wesley Pringle lived nearly 70 years of his life in Falls & Limestone Cos., with 38 years lived in Kosse, TX.
