Uncle Ben Pringle is believed to be the sixth child and fifth son of John Alexander & Lucretia Ellen Pringle. Ben was born in Escambia Florida Territory when the Pringle's were harvesting hardwood lumber and clearing land for their plantations. Ben was married to first wife Francis Travis and had one child, Alice Frances, then married 'Mattie' Martha Jane Harrington, having 17 children. Uncle Ben had two sets of twins, with the youngest twins being Jessie & Bessie. Ben served the CSA in the Civil War in Co. F, 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment, enlisting 1 Apr 1861, was promoted from Corporal to Orderly Sargeant of Gen. Rhodes Sharpshooters Brigade in 1863, was wounded & captured at Frederick City, MD 8 Jul 1864, was transferred to Lookout, MD and released 1865 at the end of the Civil War. After the Civil War, Ben moved from Lauderdale Co. MS to Pollard, Escambia Co. AL and lived some 47 years there, raising his family, many of which also lived their lives in Pollard. My grandpa told stories of traveling by train from Texas to FL and always stopping to visit Uncle Ben. He said you could ask any person living in Pollard if they knew Ben Pringle and he was known by everyone. Ben owned land, was a farmer, raised stock and worked at the bank, all in Pollard, AL. Sam O.
