Bio

John Alexander Pringle was the firstborn known son of Abraham & Mary Anne Clarke Pringle, presumed to be born in Sumter District, South Carolina. John A. is known to have migrated with his father & brothers from S.C. to Bluff Springs north of the Escambia River in West Florida Territory in 1819. John A. was a prominent land owner involved in the annexation of Escambia Co. FL, Pensacola, FL and Jackson Co. FL to the U.S. and was a signer of the citizen's petitioning to annex Escambia Co. to Alabama in 1840. John continued to migrate up the Escambia River into Conecuh Co. AL and in 1850 he owns land in Lauderdale Co. MS. John A. is thought to have about 12 children with his first wife Lucretia and 12 children with his second wife Mary Susan Overstreet; only 21 have been found. John A., his father Abraham and five brothers settled after 1850 in Alamutcha, MS when it was an early Indian village, then grew to become Marion Station the first county seat of Lauderdale Co. MS. John A. fought with CSA during the Civil War, joining Co. E. 13th Alamutcha Infantry Regiment raised in Lauderdale Co. MS. When returning from the Civil War to find their plantations plundered and civil unrest. John's brother Isham K. first traveled to Limestone Co. TX and John's family followed by wagons getting as far as East Texas when many of the family contracted some illness. John & wife Susan and several children died and were buried in the wilderness, exact place unknown but believed near Trinity, TX. The surviving 8-9 children made their way to Limestone Co. TX, where family members and friends took the orphaned children in and raised each until they married and began their own families. Known surviving children in Texas were: Matthew James, Samuel Sylvester 'Ceb', Willam Alexander 'Bud', George Kennady, Sarah Catherine 'Katy', Mary Alice, John Wesley & Lela Pringle. Of the known living children of John A. & Lucretia Ellen, that lived in MS, AL & FL that had families and did not migrate to Texas are: Allan Abraham, Mary Ann Frances, Benjamin Franklin, Samual Sidney 'Sid' & Francis Marion. If anyone knows detailed information as to a grave marker that exists for John, please advise the originator.
