Unknown, unmarked grave. Mary Susan Overstreet Pringle with her husband & several children contracted an illness & died in the wilderness in route to Falls Co., exact burial location near Trinity, TX., is not known.
Mary Susan Overstreet Pringle was the second wife of John Alexander Pringle and the mother of twelve children. Susan and John A. was married 18 Jan 1851 in Pensacola, Escambia Co., FL and she was age 18 when married. Very little is known about Susan other than in 1850 she lived with F.S. & Debora Watson in Woolsey, Escambia, FL and she was the housekeeper for John after his first wife Lucretia, died in childbirth. In 1860 in Lauderdale Co. MS, John & Susan are found with five young children. When John A. returns from the Civil War to find his plantation plundered and reconstruction unrest, he and Susan elect to migrate to Texas where his brother has moved. John and his family of 13 travel by wagons getting as far as East Texas, when many of the family contracted some illness. John, Susan and several children died and were buried in the wilderness believed near Trinity, exact place unknown. The surviving 8-9 children made their way to Limestone Co. TX, where family members and friends took the orphaned children in and raised each until they married and began their own families. Known surviving children in Texas were: Matthew James, Samuel Sylvester 'Ceb', William Alexander 'Bud', George Kennady, Sarah Catherine 'Katy', Mary Alice, John Wesley & Lela Pringle.
