Vera Edith Wood Bewley Housewright peacefully passed from our presence Saturday, March 15, 2008, at her home in Ida. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel. Visitation of family and friends: 1:30 p.m. prior to service in Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth. Vera had been a resident of Ida for seven years and three months, and a member of Ida Baptist Church. She was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Somervell County to William Andrew and Oda Wilson Wood. She married Jessie Laton Bewley Jr. March 19, 1939, and they shared their lives together for 47 years. During that time, they were blessed with three children, James Dalton, Sandra Maxine and Linda Kay. Vera received her GED at the age of 47 while living in Lexington, Ky. She was a multi-talented lady and her God-given talents included piecing quilts, quilting, seamstress-designer, gardening, painting in oils, writing poetry and publishing her own life story. She taught piano and Sunday school for years. Most important to her was being active in her church in any capacity that she was needed. She loved her country and was very patriotic. She held the position of alternate election judge for 15 years and election judge for 10 years in Precinct 4243. After Jessie's death, she then married A.G. Housewright and spent eight years with him. They traveled and were involved in teaching adults how to acquire their GED. She was a lifetime member of NARFE (doing volunteer work for five years), was an active member of TOPS, and a member of the Baptist Women at Trinity Baptist Church for 28 years. Her roots sank deep into Texas soil, for her ancestors were here by 1823; so she was also a member of The Descendants of Austin's Old Three Hundred. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Marvin R. Wood; her son, James Dalton Bewley; granddaughter, Shawn Alane Bowles; her first husband, Jessie Laton Bewley Jr.; and her second husband, Armon Grant Housewright. Survivors: Daughters, Sandra Walker and husband, Joe of Sherman and Linda Bowles and husband, Rusty of Garland; stepdaughter, Darlene Housewright Brazille of Amarillo; grandchildren, Janice Park and husband, Greg, Cyndi Stevens Smith and husband, Steve, Daniel Stevens, Cara Bowles Almanza and husband, Sergio and John Laton Bowles, USN; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joy Biggs of Ben Wheeler, Darlene Shue of Cleburne, Irene Cooper and Inez Ward, both of Granbury; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
