Jessie was the youngest child born to Jessie Laton Bewley, Sr. and Mary Frances Wood. He had three siblings: Tom, Viola and Zelma to welcome him into the world. He was born in Johnson County on the old Mack Bradley place which was located very near Venus, Texas. His education was obtained in Johnson County. When he was of age he served in the National Guard. After his marriage to Vera Edith Wood March 19, 1939 in Alvarado, Johnson Co., Texas they started out their life together working on the family and neighboring farms. Their first child, a boy, James Dalton was born on the old Shelton Place in Johnson County. Times were tough on the farm and it wasn't long before they moved to Fort Worth to live in a little community that was called Sunny Hill. Jessie found work at the Fort Worth Quartermaster and eventually became an electronic technician. In the years between, Jessie and Vera had two more children born to them: Sandra and Linda. About 1963 when the Quartermaster closed in Fort Worth, all employees were transferred to locations throughout the United States. Jessie was then transferred to Lexington Army Depot in Lexington, Kentucky. There he completed his 30 years and retired. At this time he returned to Fort Worth to make his home. He loved working on televisions in his spare time. He was a great gardener and loved growing fruit trees, berries, and all kinds of vegetables. He was meticulous about the care of his tools and equipment. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church at his death and had been a deacon for 37 years.
