Richard Paul Culler, richardpculler at msn dot com, provided the following information: She was born July 31, 1886 in Perry Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio, and died May 24, 1930 in Perry Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio. Sophia's birth is recorded in Carroll County Book 2, page 92. Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, May 30, 1930. Mrs. Sophia Adda Smeltz, living on a farm near Conotton, died at 5 o'clock Saturday morning in Dr. Tope's office at Perrysville of apoplexy. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon and burial was made in the U. B. Cemetery at Perrysville, Rev. Foreman of New Rumley, officiating. The deceased was born on a farm in Perry Township 44 years ago, and 17 years ago was married to Harry Smeltz. Surviving are the husband, two daughters of the home, Evelyn 16 and Gladys 13; three brothers, Emmet Patterson near Harlem, Murray Patterson near Carrollton and Albert Patterson, near Perrysville; two sisters, Mrs. James Logan and Mrs. Ray Umpleby near Perrysville. The deceased was a daughter of John Patterson, who also survives her. Mrs. Smeltz took while attending the graduating exercises of her niece, Elizabeth Logan, and a nephew, Leonard Patterson. Just as the crowd was dismissed and she was stepping from the hall, she seemingly fainted and was carried into Dr. Tope's office, where she remained unconscious all night, dying at five o'clock in the morning.
