Ernest's birth is recorded in Carroll County Book 2, page 47. His birth record gives his name as Roy Earnest Patterson ? His obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, April 4, 1957. Ernest S. Patterson, 74, of Rt. 3, Carrollton, died Saturday night of third degree buns suffered when a cigar ignited his clothing. Carroll County Coroner Clarence Deckman said Mr. Patterson apparently fell asleep while smoking and the cigar fell from his lips. He was found by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Patterson, about 10:30 p.m. He died enroute to the hospital. Mr. Patterson was a member of Perrysville EUB Church, Harlem Springs Grange and the Carrollton Eagles Lodge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie (Wenner) Patterson; seven sons, John and Elva of Scio, Warren of Waynesburg, Scott of Sebring, Ernest of Massillon, Wayne of Malvern and Moyne of Fairhope; three daughters, Mrs. Earl Brooks of Scio, Mrs. Ben Speedy of Bradford, Pa., and Mrs. Wayne Manbeck of Bowerston two brothers, Albert of Scio and Murry of Carrollton; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Logan and Mrs. Anna Umpleby, both of Lamartine, and 28 grandchildren. Services were held here Tuesday with the Rev. S. V. Huffman officiating. Burial was in West View Cemetery in Carrollton.
