His obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, August 24, 1933. John S. Patterson, 76, of Perry Twp., died at the home of his son, Albert Patterson on the Perrysville-Scio road early Monday, August 21, following a lingering illness. He was born in Perry Twp., October 10, 1857, son of John and Katheryn (Adams) Patterson. In 1880 Mr. Patterson was married to Miss Addie Amos. Surviving are two daughters Mrs. James Logan and Mrs. Ray Umpleby of Perrysville, and three sons, Albert Patterson, at whose home he died, and Ernest and Murray Patterson of Carrollton. His wife, one daughter, two sisters, one brother and 13 half-brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Perrysville United Brethren Church, of which Mr. Patterson was a member. The ministers in charge were Rev. Ernest Howell and Rev. Dennis Foreman, of Canton, a former pastor. Special music was contributed by a male quartet. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
