John R. Urban, 91, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, January 22, 2006 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. John was born near West, Texas, to the late John and Mary (Slovak) Urban. As a young boy he attended the Tokio school. On Nov. 17, 1943, he married Rosie Sherik in West. John was a farmer for most of his life until her retired in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society no. 31. John enjoyed farming and tending to his cattle and especially loved his family. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; brothers, Joe W., Frank, and Robert; sisters, Frances "Fannie", Josephine, and Philomena; step-brothes, Anton and Pete; step-sisters, Victoria Soukup and Clara Pavlas. Survivors include son, Joe F. Urban and wife, Linda of West; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, mary Alexander of Aquilla; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
