Martin G. Stava is my paternal grandfather and this obituary was taken from saved family records.
************************************************************ MARTIN G. STAVA, 70, a resident of Cass county for the past twenty-five years, died last evening, Friday, September 16, 1938 at the St. Joseph hospital at Omaha where he has been for the past few days. Mr. Stava was born in Czechoslovakia on August 25, 1868 to Martin G. Stava, Sr., and Katerina (Divis). The family immigrated to America in April 1874 and Mr. Stava became a naturalized citizen in David City, Nebraska on June 16, 1879. He married Miss Anna Dostal the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Chechacek) Dostal on December 20, 1891 in David City, they had 8 children. Mr. Stava had been in very good health up to Tuesday when he suffered a stroke and since which time has gradually been sinking until death came to his relief. His condition has been serious since Thursday and members of the family were called to the hospital to be with him. Mr. Stava was engaged in farming for the greater part of his residence here and was a man very highly respected by those who had the privilege of his acquaintance. Mrs. Stava (Anna Dostal) and their young daughter Emilia, preceded him in death several years ago. Mr. Stava is survived by seven of his children, all of whom reside in this community. The children are: three sons; Lewis, Edward and Thomas Stava; and four daughters; Mrs. Eva (Kenneth) McCarthy, Mrs. Lucy (Lester) Gaylord, Mrs. Laura (George) Troop and Mrs. Katheryne (Renner) Spidell. Mr. Stava's body was brought to this city last evening to the Sattler Funeral Home to await the funeral services which will be held on Monday morning, September 19, 1938 at 9:30 o'clock. A very large congregation of the old friends and associates of Martin G. Stava were present on Monday morning, for the last rites for the departed friend at the Holy Rosary Church on west Pearl Street. Interment was at the Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery beside the wife who had preceded him in death some years ago. The Sattler Funeral Home conducted the service.
