*********************************************************** IN MEMORY OF MARTIN STAVA, SR Old and Respected Resident of Butler County Died Septtember 25, 2911 _______________________________________ BRUNO, October 3, 1911 - Martin Stava, Sr., after receiving the last sacraments of the Catholic church, and surrounded by the members of his family and sorrowing friends, passed out of this world on September 25, 1911 at his home west of town. Mr. Stava was born in the village of Biskupice in Moravia on August 25, 1825, and at the time of his death was aged 86 years and one month. In Biskupice he grew to manhood. He assisted his parents from early youth and attended school during his spare time. In 1850 he met and married Miss Katherine Divis. To this union were born nine children five sons and four daughters. Two daughters preceded their father to the great beyond many years ago. The surviving children are Martin, Jr., living in Missouri, Frank, who lives in Sheridan county, Nebraska, John, James and Jennie, residing in Minnesota, and Charles and Mrs. Mary Novak, who reside with their aged mother on the old homestead. All were present at the funeral with the exception of the two sons in Minnesota, who received word too late to come. Mr. Stava and his family came to Nebraska in 1874 and homesteaded west of Bruno. Like all early settlers, they braved the hardships and privations of pioneer life. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning, September 27, 1911, in St. Anthony's church, of which church Mr. Stava had been a member since its organization. Solemn requiem high mass was followed by an able and eloquent sermon by Rev. Father Zelud, the esteemed pastor of St. Anthony's church. After the funeral services the remains were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends to the Catholic cemetery west of town where interment took place. Mr. Stava was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor. Even the children of the village all knew and loved this kindly old man.
