Married John Novak on October 25, 1887 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebr. John Novak was age 24, born Bohemia, father Frank Novak, mother Mary Homolka, residence Butler County. According to the 1900 census she was a widow. '''''''''''' The Peoples Banner (David City, Nebr.), August 1, 1940, p 2, col. 3 BRUNO Mrs. Mary Novak died at her home in Bruno at noon on Thursday, July 25. She had been in failing health, and the extreme heat probably hastened her passing. She was about 80 years old. Funeral services were held from the McVay Funeral home in David City to St. Anthony's Catholic church at 8 o'clock on Saturday morning, with interment in St. Anthony's Catholic cemetery. The Rev. F. J. Kopecky conducted the burial services. Mrs. Novak was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Stava, pioneer residents of Bruno vicinity and she had lived practically all her life here. She is survived by one son, Joseph, of Bruno and a brother, Frank Stava of Rushville, both of whom were present at the funeral. Another brother, Charles Stava, resides in Czechoslovakia.
