Bio
Mary Zetah was born on 28 February 1862, in LaCrosse, LaCrosse County, Wisconsin, to Frank and Anna Zetah. In 1874, she came with her parents to Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, where she attended public school and grew to womanhood. On 10 July 1888, Mary was united in marriage at Bird Island, Minnesota, to Frank M. (Franz) Serbus. Frank was born on 07 August 1864, in quarantine on a ship, while his parents, Jan (John) and Rosile Brtek Serbus, were coming to America. Mary and Frank Serbus raised eight children. Adolph was born 22 July 1899; Kate was born 31 December 1891; Joseph was born on 25 September 1892; Lucy was born 20 March 1897; Mary was born 11 March 1898; Frank was born 20 August 1902; Theodore was born 19 August 1904; and, Edward was born 03 February 1906. Frank and Mary had three children who died in infancy. Mary Zetah Serbus died from pernicious anemia at the family home in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, on Sunday, 28 February 1926 (her birthday), at 2:30 a.m. Mary was known as a good Christian lady and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her death was a sad blow to the sorrowing husband and children and left a vacant chair in the family circle which would never be filled. The sympathy of the community went out to the family in their time of sorrow. The funeral service for Mary was held on Tuesday, 02 March 1926, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, Minnesota. Reverend Father Jiracek of Redwood Falls, conducted the service, which included a requiem mass. Mary was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Henry and John Serbus, Joe Swoboda, Wencel Kojetin, Mike Barta, and John Malecek.
