Bio

Mary Ann Hosek was born on 29 October 1905 to Joseph and Amelia Kott Hosek in South Dakota. Mary was united in marriage to John Edward Serbus on 16 September 1930, in Chamberlain, Brule County, South Dakota. John was born on 11 September 1899, to John William and Mary Ann (Kojetin) Serbus. Following their marriage, Mary and John farmed south of Olivia in Henryville Township for four years. In 1934, they moved to a farm south of Danube in Flora Township and in 1963, they moved to Renville. Mary Ann Hosek Serbus of Renville, Minnesota, died at the age of 73, on 29 May 1979, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. Mary Ann was survived by her husband, John Edward of Olivia Health Center; children, Joseph L. of Springfield, Francis of Danube, Clarence of Willmar, Mary Ann (Steve) Schmoll of Olivia, Mildred (Robert) Hagen of Bird Island, and Veronica (Donald) Frank of Renville; 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by three sons, John E., Jr., Harry D., and Gilbert B.; one daughter, Barbara J.; one sister and two brothers The funeral service for Mary was held on 31 May 1979, at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville; Reverend Kenneth Wendinger officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Pallbearers were all Mary’s grandsons, Douglas Schmoll of Willmar; Tony, Bernard, and Pat Schmoll of Olivia; Wayne Sing of Spicer; and Tom, Jeff, and Ronald Hagen of Bird Island.
