The Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), July 16, 1964, p. 2, col. 5 & 6 Services Held Here For Former Resident A former Butler county resident, Jerold Ernest Shonka, 72, died Saturday, July 11, at North Hollywood, Calif. Funeral services were conducted Monday at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, Panormaa City, Calif., and the body was returned to David City for burial at St. Mary's Cemetery Wednesday morning. Msgr. A. J. Liso officiated at the rites here. The son of Frank and Anna Shonka, he was born in August of 1891 at David City. He grew to manhood and was educated in Butler county. He was married at David City in 1912 to Mary Macholan. Four children were born to this union. Mrs. Shonka died in 1922. Later he married Mildred Sypal and five children were born to this union. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons, Leonard of North Hollywood, Calif., and Harold of Long Beach, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Arlene Kranz of Canoga Park, Calif., Mrs. Theresa Valeria of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Edith Gengler of South Gate, Calif., Miss Judy Shonka of South Gate, Calif., and Mrs. Delores Willis of Redwood City, Calif.; two sisters, Ann Trojan of Ogallala, and Mary Miller of South Gate, Calif.; and 20 grandchildren. His parents, his first wife, Mary, a daughter, Louise, a son, Richard, and seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
