Born in the village of Smolec, town of Bechyn, county of Znojmo, Moravia, Austria (now in the Czech Republic). ''''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), April 29, 1920, p. 1, col. 1 MRS. F. SHONKA FOUND DEAD She Died at Her Home in David City Tuesday, April 27. Mrs. Frank Shonka, for many years a resident of Butler county, for several years residing in David City was found dead in her bedroom Tuesday morning, April 27, by her husband. Mrs. Shonka for several years had been affected by heart disease. Her death was evidently from that disease. Mr. Shonka had risen early Tuesday morning and prepared breakfast. After calling Mrs. Shonka several times and getting no response he entered her bedroom where he found her lying on the rug beside the bed. She was dead. Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 11 a. m., Thursday, April 29. They were conducted by Rev. Father Hassler, assistant pastor of St. Mary's church, Rev. Father Petrasch, the pastor, being out of town. Rev. Father Hassler was assisted by Rev. Father Zalud, of Bruno. Sons of Mrs. Shonka, Frank, Joseph, Edward, Anton, Sylvester and Jerold, were the pallbearers. There was large attendance at the funeral and many friends coming from Bruno and vicinity, Mr. and Mrs. Shonka having resided there some years. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery, David City. Mrs. Anna Shonka, wife of Frank Shonka, was in her 66th year. She was born in Bohemia, at Smolie, Tabor, July 22, 1854, the daughter of Frank and Katerina Tupy. She had lived in Butler county 47 years, coming to the county in 1873. She had resided in David City since November, 1914. She was married to Frank Shonka at Plasi April 27, 1874. Ten children were born to them. One son, John, preceded his mother to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Shonka is survived by her husband and nine children, 31 grandchildren and six sisters. The surviving children are Frank R. Shonka and Joseph W. Shonka of Dwight, Edward J. Shonka of Bellwood Mrs. Stazie Kobza of Ulysses, Mrs. Mary Novacek of Bruno, S. V. Shonka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, J. E. Shonka of David City, Anton W. Shonka of Garrison and Mrs. Anna Trojan of Seward. Mrs. Shonka was devoted to her husband and children and to her church. Relatives in attendance at the funeral from outside Butler county were Joseph and Barbora Molacek, Barbora Drohata and Anna Kareb of Howells and S. V. Shonka from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sixty-two relatives in all were in attendance.
