PICKERILL, ETHEL I.—Ethel I., daughter of B. C. and Cynthia McCashland, was born September 5, 1886, on the family farm home near Grafton, Neb. She passed away at Geneva May 25, 1961, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 20 days. She suffered a coronary thrombosis May 21 from which she failed to regain consciousness. Ethel attended school at district 81. She later attended the York business College and worked in a York law office for a time. She was united in marriage to Fred Haney July 4, 1907, at York. To this union were born three children, Lois, Max and Fern. Her husband, Fred passed away September 5, 1918. Ethel was united in marriage to George F. Pickerill March 22, 1921. One son, George Jr., was born to this union. Her husband, George, passed away January 16, 1944. Ethel was baptized and received into the membership of the First Congregational Church of Geneva July 12, 1953. She was a member of the Pilots of the Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational church. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor Kensington and of the Jolly Neighbor Kensington. Ethel was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, one sister, and four brothers. She is survived by her children, Lois, Mrs. Reno Weis, of Geneva; Mrs. Haney of Buffalo, N. Y.; Fern, Mrs. Royal Cruse of Oakland, Cal.; and George Pickerill of Oakland, Cal.; two brothers, James McCashland, of Carleton and Walter McCashland of Chugwater, Wyo.; two sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the congregational church in Geneva at 2 p. m. Monday, May 29. Rev. Robert Kasper officiated. Ralph Reemts sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer”, with Mrs. Willard Foster accompanist. Pallbearers were George Cruse, Lowell Garrett, Robert Kiester, Bert Lynn Jr., Harold McCashland and Fred Slepicka. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 1 June 1961 page 3.
