Virgil Herl, 76, Hays died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born June 17, 1931, in Munjor to Anton and Katie (Kippes) Herl. He married Mary Ann Zimmerman Wasinger on Aug. 18, 1973, in Brighton, Colo. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2001. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Schoenchen Knights of Columbus Council No. 4166, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Baker and husband, Richard, Park City; two sisters, Eleanor Sims, Blue Springs, Mo., and Lorraine Boyle, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Amy Hofer and husband, Chris, Benton, Brian Kohl and wife, Lacey, Centerton, Ark., Brian Baker and wife, Misty, Derby, and Matt Baker and wife, Amanda, Wichita; and six great-grandchildren, Kyndal and Kali Kohl, Kaitlyn and Kaleb Baker, and Austin and Logan Rickard. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Larry, Elmer, Bruno, Richard, Jim and Clifford Herl, and two sisters, Sister Flavia Herl and Gilda Herl. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military honors by Hays VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hays Good Samaritan Center, or Humane Society of the High Plains in care of the funeral home. Hays Daily News, 3/3/2008
