Hoxie - Clifford Paul Herl, 78, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Sheridan County Long Term Care Unit in Hoxie. He was born April 17, 1927, to Anton and Kathryn (Kippes) Herl in Munjor. He married Ruth Elaine Stewart March 10, 1957. She died Sept. 4, 2004. He worked in the oil fields and was a Korean Army veteran. After his retirement, he volunteered for Toys for Tots in Liberal. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal and of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the VFW. Survivors include three sons, DeLaine Herl, St. Peters, Mo., Charles Herl, Liberal, and Leon Herl; four daughters, Linda Ponce, Glenn Falls, N.Y., Cathy Herl, Liberal, Paula Shoemate, Springfield, Mo., and Carla Zodrow, Hoxie; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elenora Simmons, Kansas City, Mo., and Laurene Herl, Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Frances Catholic Church in Hoxie with Father Ben Saw presiding. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Liberal Cemetery. Friends may call until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mickey- Leopold Funeral Home in Hoxie.
