McCurtain County News: December 31, 2003 Funeral services for Edith Lawrence Marshall, 71, Holly Creek community, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church, Idabel, with the Revs. James Davis and Cletus Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Hill Cemetery, Holly Creek, under the direction of Jim Norwood Funeral Home. Marshall died Monday at St. Michael's Hospital, Texarkana, Texas. She was born Oct. 14, 1932, in Bethel, the daughter of William F. and Nancy Lawrence. A 1951 graduate of Battiest High School, she earned a degree in education in 1956 from Southeaster Oklahoma State College, Durant. She married James Lane Marshall on March 29, 1956, in Durant. Marshall taught 32 years in the Denison and Idabel school districts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Idabel, the Order of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma. Marshall was preceded in death by her parents, by a brother, William F. Lawrence Jr.; and by a sister, Willie Mae Hoover. Survivors include her husband, James Marshall, Holly Creek; three sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Brenda Marshall, Valliant; Alan and Billie Marshall, and Ron and Linda Marshall, all of the Holly Creek Community; a daughter, Nancy Carole Marshall, Holly Creek; a brother, Earney Lawrence, Wiley, Texas; four sisters and brothers-in-law; Faye and Don Gates, Redland; Lillian and J.C. Whitten, Forest Grove community; Dessie and J.B. Stinnett, Owasso; and Sylvia and Warren Llewellyn, Collinsville; a sister-in-law, Geneve Lawrence, Horatio, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Lupus Foundation or the Idabel Education Association's scholarship fund.
