In Memoriam LILLIAN WHITTEN August 11, 1920 ~ February 20, 2016 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Lillian V. Whitten a beloved family member and resident of Durant, Oklahoma left this life on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the age of 95 years 6 months and 9 days. She was born in Bethel, Oklahoma on Wednesday, August 11, 1920 to William Franklin and Nancy Virginia (Walston) Lawrence. Lillian was blessed to find love twice in her lifetime, 1st to Jess Simpson and 2nd to J.C. Whitten. Lillian always enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden or planting flowers. She liked the quiet solitude of fishing and being in the woods hunting. Lillian loved her family above all else, and looked forward to watching her grandchildren play ball. Mrs. Whitten is survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Simpson of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Marci Smith and husband Justin of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Kristin Prescott and husband Sgt. Jerrad Prescott of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Kylie Hobbs of Durant, Oklahoma and Branton Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; great-great grandchildren, Brylie Prescott of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Blake Prescot of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; sisters, Dessie Stinnet of Owasso, Oklahoma and Sylvia Llewelyn of Owasso, Oklahoma; step-children, Treva Clardy and husband Wayne of Idabel, Oklahoma, JoAnn Crank of Garvin, Oklahoma and John Wayne Whitten and wife Teresa of McAlester, Oklahoma;and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Lawrence; 1st husband, Jess Simpson and 2nd husband, J.C. Whitten; son, Kenny Simpson; brothers, William and Earnie Lawrence; sisters, Edith Marshal, Willie Hoover and Faye Gates; and step-son-in-law, Roger Crank . A Chapel Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Brumley Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She was such a good person. I a havent seen her in many years, since I was very young. Our family visited Lillian and Jess many times and shared a garden with them. Ms. Lillian would babysit for my Mom, I loved going to her house. I remember her showing us how to make butter. Many wonderful memories of Ms. Lillian.
