James Marshall - James L. Marshall, 77, Holly Creek community, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sat-urday, Nov. 15, 2008. James Lane was born to H.F. Marshall and Alice Carole Lane Marshall on Nov. 6, 1931, in the Honey Grove community. James was a graduate of Gray High School, Idabel, in 1950, attended Oklahoma A&M before serving his country during the Korean Conflict, after which he returned to Durant where he re-ceived his BS in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State College. He later received his masters in Education from Okla-homa State University and his Masters in Administration from The University of Oklahoma. James met Edith Lawrence in 1956 at Southeastern Oklahoma State College; they were married March 29, 1956, and remained faithful until her death in 2003. James spent his adult life working with and for the children of McCurtain County. He was a 4-H leader, teacher (teacher of the year for Idabel Public Schools in 1974), church deacon and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church, Idabel, member of the Idabel Masonic Lodge, and a longtime member of the McCurtain County Fair Board. He had the distinction of being one of two men from McCurtain County to be a State Alumni member of both Oklahoma 4-H and FFA. James is preceded in death by his parents, H.F. and Alice Carole Marshall; and his wife of 48 years, Edith Lawrence Mar-shall. James is survived by three sons and daughters in-law, Gary and Brenda Marshall, Valliant, Alan and Billie Marshall, Holly Creek, and Ron and Linda Marshall, Holly Creek; and one daughter, Nancy Carole Marshall, Holly Creek; nine grandchildren, Terra and Darren Milner, Valliant, Sarah and Todd Wesley, Broken Bow, Josh Marshall, Prattville, Ala., Kory Marshall, Birming-ham, Ala., James Marshall, Wis-ter, Jacky and Carolyn Marshall, Holly Creek, Jessica Marshall, Holly Creek, Crystina Marshall, Holly Creek, and John Womble III, Phoenix, Ariz.; five great grandchildren, Landan Milner, Addison Wesley, Kailyn Mar-shall, Skyler Marshall, and Lib-erty Rose Cooper; two sisters, Wilna Lee Black, Carlsbad, N.M., and Alice Sue Marshall, Hatch, N.M.; and numerous other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Norwood-Nation Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the First Baptist Church, Idabel, with the Rev. James Davis and Rev. Cletus Hawkins officiating. In-terment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the McCurtain County Fair Board. Professional services provided by Norwood-Nation Funeral Home.
