Herald Coaster, April 20, 2000: Lee Roy Tielke, 81, of Beasley passed away April 19, 2000 at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1918 in Needville, the son of Minnie and Willie Tielke. Lee Roy was a farmer in the area. He owned and operated a Mobil gas station in Beasley for many years. He retired from the Texas State Highway Department, spending many hours fishing at Lake Somerville. Lee Roy enjoyed a good game of dominoes or cards. For 31 years, Lee Roy was a member of the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department, and he served as fire chief for 24 years. He was very dedicated to the fire department and to serving the community. Lee Roy met his future wife, Alice, at Fairchild Hall where he declared them the best dancers on the floor. Throughout their married life, they loved to go dancing. They married the last day of June almost 60 years ago. Lee Roy is survived by his wife, Alice Tielke of Beasley; his daughters, Janette Van Gossen and her husband, Daniel, and Sandra Startz and her husband, Larry; his sons, Troy Tielke and Gary Tielke; grandchildren, Connie Fowler and her husband, Bobby, Suzanne Zurovec and her husband, Paul, Donnie Van Gossen and his wife, Susie, Ronnie Van Gossen and his wife, Heidi, Dax, Reed and Ross Startz; great-grandchildren, Jade, Laney and Daegen Fowler, Cole and Cade Zurovec, Ryder Van Gossen, Cody Van Gossen, Amanda Kuban and MacKenzie Van Gossen; his brothers and sisters, Viola Fuchs and her husband, Clarence, Caroline Macik and her husband, Frank, Ora Lee Lamensky and her husband, Clarence, Margie Janaek, Raymond Tielke and his wife, Eleanor, Melvin Tielke and his wife, Willie Mae; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Tielke was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Minnie Tielke and a sister, Lonie Tielke. The family requests donations in honor of Lee Roy's life be made to Frieden's United Church of Christ or to the Beasley Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services are pending with Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg, (281) 342-4671.
