Texas Coaster, November 2, 1950: A freak accident Thursday of last week took the life of Willie H. Wieghat, a Fort Bend county maintenance worker. Mr. Wieghat, who had been employed by Precinct No. 2 of Fort Bend county since 1945, was operating a maintainer on the Needville-Newgulf road Thursday when the blade of the grade ruptured a high pressure gas line buried in the roadbed. The gas immediately ignited, probably by the machine's motor, but Wieghat jumped clear, although afire. He was taken to the Polly Ryon hospital in Richmond, where he died Friday night. Mr. Wieghat is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Wieghat of Needville; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wieghat of Beasley; four daughters, Mrs. Rosalie Barnse of Rocky Mountain, N.C., Mrs. Lillie Keeton of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mrs. Benita Walzel of Needville and Mrs. Leona Griffith of Richmond; a son, Lawrence Wieghat of Needville; eight sisters, Mrs. Matilda Brinkmeyer of Orchard, Mrs. Hennie Albright of Beasley, Mrs. Emma Tielke of Needville, Mrs. Bertha Demuth of Brenham, Mrs. Nelda Meyer of Houston, Mrs. Waldine Wehring of Brenham, Mrs. Lydia Randermann of Beasley, Mrs. Alma Lorenz of Brenham; a brother, Bennie Wieghat of Beasley, and six grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Wieghat were held at 2:45 p.m. Monday afternoon from the Needville Funeral chapel and at 3:00 p.m. from the Evangelical church in Needville. Burial was in the Evangelical cemetery in Needville. Pallbearers were Louis Teykl, Tom Snedecor, Joe Sury, Alvin Warncke, Lester Sralla and Butch Poncik. Services were under the direction of the Foerster Funeral home.
