Fort Bend Herald, February 15, 2017: Benita E. (Wieghat) Walzel, 90, of Needville, Texas passed away on February 13, 2017. She was born on August 24, 1926 in Needville, Texas to Willie and Martha Tielke Wieghat. In her younger years, she worked at the Needville Movie Theatre and at the bank before taking on the most important role of caregiver, wife and mother. She was a dedicated member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville. Her hobbies included dancing, cooking, baking, playing dominoes, sewing, deer hunting, traveling, and playing Bingo. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. Over the years she helped with Cub Scouts, the Lady’s Auxiliary, was a member of the S.P.J.S.T., and even was on the Needville Fire Department’s Pumper Team. Benita and her husband, Gilbert were members of Rosenberg, Brazoria, Wallis, Sealy and Industry Dance Clubs. This loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend will be missed. In addition to her parents, Benita is preceded in death by her siblings, Lawrence Wieghat and Rosa Lee Barnes. Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Gilbert Walzel; children, Curtis Walzel and wife, Cindy, Jed Walzel and wife, Pat, and Corlis Delling (CD Kalinowski); sisters, Lillie Bishop and Leona Griffith; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wieghat; grandchildren, Carrie Irey and husband, Gary; Michael Eason and wife, Whitney, Corey Walzel, Bradley Vallet and wife, Kathy, Jason Vallet and wife, Stephanie, and Melissa Sanchez and husband, Jay; great grandchildren, MacKenzie & Hunter Neal, Lauren, Waverly, and Gunner Irey, Briley, Mia and Braden Eason, Jackson Walzel, Dominick & Dylan Sanchez, Raegan & Wyatt Vallet; along with other family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Needville and the staff of Houston Hospice & El Campo Hospice for their dedicated care and support of Benita.
