Bio
Marie Lander Bates, 88, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19 2012, in St. Catherine's Center in Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. Marie was born in Leroy, Texas, to the late John and Emma Heine Lander. On March 12, 1959, in Waco, she married Roma Scott Bates. She was confirmed as a teenager in the United Church of Christ. Marie had an extremely happy childhood playing with her nine brothers and sisters and dancing. She worked for the Weston Cookie Factory for several years, and later worked in the kitchen for the WISD. She had resided in the Waco area for the past 63 years. She was preceded in death by seven brothers; and a sister, Lydia Schuetz Marie is survived by her husband, Scott Bates; son, Gary Bates; sister, Irene Janke, all of Waco; and other family members and many friends.
