Bio
Herman Lander, age 82, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, March 10, 2002 at his residence. A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Lander was born on August 24, 1919 in Leroy, the son of John and Emma Lander. He attended school in West. He married Martha Kocian on November 8, 1949 in West. He worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for 29 years, before retiring in 1981. He enjoyed daily coffee with friends at Ole Czech Bakery, dancing and Czech music. He also loved flowers and gardening, and especially his grandchildren whom he considered his pride and joy. He was a member of KJT #11, Knights of Columbus #2305, United Rubber Workers Local 312 and General Tire Retirement Club. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Martha Lander of West; one son, Larry Lander and wife Shelly of Dallas; one daughter, Debbie Grellhesl and husband Johnny of West; two sisters, Marie Bates and Irene Janke, both of Waco; four grandchildren, Melanie of San Marcos, Kristel of West, Zachary of Dallas and Kaitlin of Kermisville, NC; and several nieces and nephews. We will miss our loving husband, dad and grandpa, but we have our wonderful memories of him that will last forever. We would like to thank all of our family and friends, Providence Hospice and everyone at Aderhold Funeral Home who helped us and comforted us. Your love and support is very much appreciated.
