Bio

Herald Coaster, December 29, 2003: Elton Fritz Tielke passed away on December 26, 2003. He was born in Needville, Texas on September 19, 1924 to Emma Wieghat Tielke and Albin Fritz Tielke. He graduated from Beasley High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1949 and Masters of Education in 1951 from the University of Houston. From 1949 to 1964, he served in the Lamar Consolidated I.S. D., most notably as Principal of Travis Elementary School. He received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Texas in 1968. Dr. Tielke served 6 years as principal of University Park Elementary School in the Highland Park School District in Dallas. He was Director of Elementary Education in the Brazosport I.S.D. for 11 years until his retirement in 1981. He then served for 12 years as the Director of Larkin Community Center in Houston, a mission outreach of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church Elton was married to Bertha Ehlert of Needville in 1949. They had two daughters. Bertha died in 1979. He then married Faye White of Freeport in 1981 and they were married until her death in 1989. Elton was very active in church and civic organizations. He received many honors during his lifetime including the "Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award" from the Rosenberg Chamber of Commerce in 1959. Dr. Tielke is survived by his daughters Donna Linn Tielke Reed and husband Marvin Earl (Sonny) Nichols of Houston and Robin Lori Tielke Glaze of Port Arthur; a sister Eileen Alaminsky and her husband Lawrence of Sugar Land; brothers, Albin Tielke, Jr. of Sugar land and Woodorw Wieghat and wife Judy of Bullard; sister -in-law Gladys Barta and husband Herman of Rosenberg; 6 granddaughters Amanda Reed of Houston; Kelly, Sarah, and Chelsea Glaze of Port Arthur; Dara Nichols of College Station; Dawn Nichols of Germany; a stepson Randy White; a host of nieces and nephews; and his friend Ann Collier of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bernie Tielke, sister-in-law Verna Dell Tielke, and son-in-law Guy Roland Glaze. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, December 29, 2003 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer at Dairy Ashford, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. at memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. at Davis Greenlawn cemetery in Rosenberg. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. at Davis Greenlawn cemetery in Rosenberg.
