Leota was the daughter of John King and Clara Minerva Pease. Born in Missouri she had moved to McLennan, Texas with her parents, brother Frank and sister Ida Mary. After moving to Texas another brother George Albert and 2 sisters Minnie Louise and Gladys Elizabeth were born. Leota met William (Bill) Vantine in 1903 at a dance at the Baptist Church in Big Valley, Texas. In 1904 the family moved to Hardeman County, Texas and Bill and Leota were married May 1, 1906. Bill loved to tell people that he stole the King's daughter. Leota loved the outdoors and would rather help with the ranch work than do what she called womans work. Together Bill and Leota raised a daughter Floy and 3 sons Roy Lee, Jack King and Joe Galen. All 3 boys fought during WWII in different branches of the service. Leota became the first woman to drive a school bus in the state of Texas.
