Bill was born in Jack County, Texas and a year later the family moved to Wise County. Two years later the family moved again this time to Margaret the county seat of Hardeman County, Texas. There the family ran a hotel and little Bill sold whiskey bottles for spending money. The family moved on again to the Medicene Mounds area where they became some of the first settlers to homestead the area. In the beginning the family lived in a half dugout while the house was built. At the age of 21 Bill met Leota King at the Baptist Church in Big Valley and courted her for 2 years before they married on May 1, 1906 in Quanah, Texas. Early day ranchers and farmers in Star Valley Community, southwest of Medicine Mound Bill and Leota owned 1248 acres where they raised cattle, mules, hogs, chickens and row crops. Bill and Leota raised a daughter and three sons; all three sons serving their country during WWII. (Taken from "Our Stories-Legend of the Mounds" by Bill Neal)
