E. H. Harden, 81, almost all his life a resident of the Old Huron community, died at the home of his son, Cecil Harden. Atchison Globe 1948 The Atchison Daily Globe, 29 Nov 1948, Mon, Page 3 Pallbearers at the funeral of Eli Harden were six nephews: J. S. Grimes, Garold Harden, Lyle Shufflebarger, Henry Harden, Leonard Weaver and Kenneth Weaver. A son, Harold Harden and wife who were here for the funeral returned home Thursday evening. Eli Harden was the first proprietor of the Hotel Grand at Horton and a member of the Horton lodge No. 165 K. of P. He was also active in Democratic politics in Atchison and Brown counties. Harden was also the first marshal of Horton also worked as a detective around Horton and other locals. He drifted into railroad detective work and was finally made chief of detectives at Des Moines, Iowa, where he made quite a reputation. The Casey, Iowa, Record, of last week contained the following which indicated that Eli has gone the kissing route: Eli Hardin, chief of detectives of Des Moines, has worked up a quite a reputation as a kisser. His kissing stunts are notable on account of being the opposite of the Hobson brand, but he is accused of getting there Eli, and has lost his job until an investigation can be made. Three women have charged Chief of Detective's Eli Harden with hugging and kissing them in his private office when they were called there on business. The police and fire commission was asked to remove the chief
