Monroe Hardin, an old settler living near the Bethel church, north of Effingham, died Saturday night of last week. He had been sick since last September and for the last three weeks had not eaten any food. He was unmarried. His mother died when he was 6 years old and he came to Kansas with his father at the age of 7 years. His father died August 7, 1892. Three half-brothers and a half-sister survive him: Will and Wallace Hardin, of Huron. Eli Hardin, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. R. T. Weaver, of Huron. The funeral was held at the Bethel church Tuesday at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev. Kelly and the burial was at the Old Huron cemetery. Mr. Hardin had been a member of the M. E. church for 38 years. The pall bearers were Geo. Dengler, D. Searles, Nels Reece, S. D. Warner, John Grimes and Sam Winder. The New Leaf, Effingham, Kansas, 23 Feb 1906, Fri, Page 2
