Bio

From the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Feb. 6, 1972, p. 6A: Funeral Monday for Mrs. Walls Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Central Baptist Church for Mrs. Hester Bumpass Walls, 75, of 2408 37th St., who died about 6:15 a.m. Thursday in University Hospital here. Officiating will be Dr. E. Harold Henderson, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Jack A. Welch, a former pastor of the church. Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Walls moved to Lubbock in 1918 with her late first husband, Jesse F. Bumpass. They had owned and operated the Hub Laundry until the time of his death in 1949. Mrs. Walls was married to the late L.W. Walls in 1961. Survivors include five sons, O.C. Bumpass of Comanche, Jesse F. Bumpass Jr. of San Antonio, and Winston Bumpass, Walter Bumpass and Joe Bob Bumpass, all of Lubbock; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Loescher of Orange, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Colby of Lubbock; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Kelley and Mrs. Vennie Link, both of Lubbock; a brother, A.C. Lane of Lubbock; her stepmother, Mrs. Rena Lane of Lubbock; a half-brother, Royce Lane of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles Curry, Clarence Caswell, Harold Dorsey, Danny Meador, Stanley Jones and Kevin Bartley.
