Del Norte Prospector dated May 27, 1938 Thomas George Allam, 62, died May 22, 1938 at Del Norte, Colorado. Allam was born May 16, 1877 by the shores of the blue Mediterranean Sea in Syria, spending his boyhood in the busy seaport of Beirut, flanked by the olive trees and stately palms of the lofty Lebanon Mountains. He was born into one of the first families of the Holy Lands, one of those members was the Archbishop of Syria. When only twenty years old, he realized the restrictions of the East and decided to immigrate to the west and landed in the United States in 1896. He first went to Minneapolis where he engaged in business with an uncle. In 1898, he landed in Del Norte, which, for 46 years, was to be his happy home. He entered businesses that included sheep raising, hotel business, and acquired several ranches and city residential properties. In 1902, he married Miss Effy Saidy. To this union was born three daughters and two sons. For many years, Allam served on the Board of the Del Norte Federal Building and Loan Association, and he was instrumental in enabling that institution to attain its present high position. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Town of Del Norte and was on the Board of Trustees of the Modern Woodmen of America. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Surviving are his widow, Effy, his children, Mrs. Julia Prosch; Dorothy, Ruby; George; and John; two grandchildren, Barbara and Tommy Prosch; and a brother, George and his wife.
