Johnathan A Stevenson married Martha Nancy Alford on 4 November 1874 at Merlin Falls, Texas. The marriage license was filed in Falls County, Texas. He preceded her in death leaving her with five small children. She bravely shouldered this responsibility and carried on. In spite of her many duties, she found time to contribute to the civic, religious, and social life of her community, and her neighbors came to know her as an angel of mercy to all who were sick and in need. Services for Mrs. Martha Stevenson were held at the home of S.K. Stevenson, 903 Shawnee Street in Graham, Texas officiated by Rev. R.C. Edwards, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Much of Mrs. Stevenson's life was spent in the Finis community, where she was active in the work of the Methodist Church and other community activities Mrs. Stevenson was born on the family farm near Springfield in Limestone County, Texas. After her husband's death, she was a laundress. She united with the Methodist Church in 1868. Two of Mrs. Stevenson's children - Lottie Garvin and Jake Stevenson, preceded her in death. Survived by three children; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers.
