Services are pending with Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Greenville (Texas) Herald Banner, Monday, 13 Jan 1997, page A2, Obituaries, Weldon Shields [photo captioned Weldon W. Shields] Funeral services for Weldon W. Shields, 88, of Greenville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Todwell (sic) Cemetery. He died Saturday at his residence. Mr. Shields was born July 8, 1908 in Hunt County to William Franklin and Dora Bolton Shields. He married the former Inez Green on Sept. 5, 1936 in Greenville. He was the head of the parts department of Majors Field during World War II and worked at a bakery, driven a truck, owned a grocery store, driven in (sic) ambulance, been a licensed funeral director, and owned, with his wife, Weldon Shields Motor Company. Mr. Shields was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 58 years. He was on the building committee of the second sanctuary builty by Wesley U.M.C. and the Methodist Conference was a youth sponsor and Sunday School superintendent, honorary member of the Board Stewards and a charter member of the ALR Class. He was also Director of the Tidwell Cemetery Association. Mr. Shields was the author of the book Texas Giants. ... ...
