Monday May 1, 1950 Pg. 12 FRED I. ROACH STRICKEN SUDDENLY VETERAN U.P. INSPECTOR IS TAKEN BY DEATH Fred Issac Roach Sr., 68, Stolley Park Road, veteran car inspector of the Union Pacific Railroad died early this morning in a local hospital. He was stricken suddenly last night while at work in the local shop and died shortly after being rushed to the hospital. Funeral arrangements await word from out of town relatives. Inquities may be directed to the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral home. Born at Corning, Iowa Sept. 5, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Roach, he moved with his family to a farm near Sargent at the age of 18. He sided in the operation of the farm until his marriage. He and Miss Clara B. Hohman were married at Taylor Dec. 31 1908. They lived first at Sargent and later at Corning, Iowa. After Mr. Roach accepted employment with a structural steel company, the family lived in various Nebraska communities. They came to Grand Island in 1917. Mr. Roach then entered the service of Union Pacific Railroad. Survivors include his wife, six sons, Harold and Fred Jr., Grand Island, Vern, Holdrege, Sgt. Robert, Tacoma, Wash., Naval Journalist 2/c Lee E., San Juan, Puerto Rico and Jack at home; six daughters, Mrs. Lee Ward and Mrs. Ernet Dahlke, Grand Island, Mrs. George Warrell Jr., Burley, Cassia, IDa. Mrs. Clyde Henning, Loup City, Mrs. B.J. Ainley, Kansas City, Kansas and Joyce at home. Others are two brothers John, Grand Island and Homer, Corning, Ia; a sister Mrs. Fred Liebert and 30 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Billy Rae, his parents, a brother James and a sister, Mrs. George Leibert. Grand Island Independent Thursday May 4, 1950 ROACH FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY Funeral services for Fred Roach, veteran car inspector for the Union Pacific Railroad, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Livingston-Sonderman Funeral home by the Rev. Alton O. Kaul, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Grand Island Cem. Friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 o'clock at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral home. Mr. Roach died suddenly Monday morning in a local hospital. He had been stricken suddenly while on duty at the Union Pacific Shops.
