James W. Roach passed away at his farm house a short distance west of Broken Bow on Tuesday morning November 12, 1935. His death was caused from complications of a chronic heart disease. He was well known through Custer County where he has resided for the last 25 years, during which time he was devoted his efforts to cattle raising and occasionally engaging in both real estate and in the insurance business. James Roach was the son of John and Sarah. He was born at Corning Iowa of Dec 2, 1883. He grew to manhood in that community. On Jan 8, 1908 he was married to Ruby Hackett of Corning, Iowa. In May of 1910 the family moved to Nebraska locating at that time near Walworth, Nebraska. The family moved to the farm a short distance west of Broken Bow in March of 1919, where they resided ever since. Mr. Roach for many years has been affiliated with the IOOF Lodge of Broken Bow. He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters, Mrs. Eva Christenson and Mrs. Bernice Waters. Both of Broken Bow. 1 grandson Robert James Waters of Broken Bow, 2 sisters Mrs. Fred Leibert of Sargent and Mrs. George Leibert of Sargent and by 4 brothers, Clyde Roach of Sargent, Fred Roach and John Roach both of Grand Island and Homer Roach of Corning, Iowa. Homer Roach was the only one of the immediate family who was unable to attend the final funeral services. Funeral service were held at the First Baptist Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with Rev Parker Smith of Ravenna in charge, assisted with the local IOOF Lodge rites. The Custer County Nebraska community 5 miles northwest of Broken Bow was saddened Thursday November 12, 1935 when news came tat our friend and neighbor James Roach has passed away. Among relatives present for the funeral at the 1st Baptist Church in Broken Bow were Mr and Mrs Harry Bails, Mr and Mrs Chris Christensen and Jochn Hackett, Father of Mrs. James Roach all of Yankton, SD. These ladies being sisters of Mrs Roach, Mr and Mrs Fred Roach and John Roach of Grand Island, brother of Mr. Roach, Mr and Mrs Fred Leibert and daughter Lillian and George Leibert of Sargent, Mrs. Fred Leibert being a sister of Mr. Roach. Also Mr and Mrs Howard Leibert, Mr and Mrs Ralph Leibert and Clyde Roach and sons Milo and Merle also of Sargent. Mr and Mrs Woodrow Packard of Comstock and Mr and Mrs Wayne Roach of Sargent, Mrs James Roach's father John Hackett of Yankton, SD will remain and spend some time with her bereaved daughter.
