Bio

Gerald Berkenbosch, 68, of Reasnor, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died early Saturday in University Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services were held Monday in Toland Funeral Home in Newton. Mrs. Ron Toppenberg was the organist. Pallbearers were Duane Hendricks, Larry Hendricks, William steenhoek, Robert Sheeler, Ivan Sheeler, and Kenneth Kingdon. The Rev. Raymond Moore, minister of the Reasnor Methodist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Hewitt Cemetery near Reasnor. Survivors are his wife Gladys; three son's, Howard, Harold and Carroll all of Newton, Iowa; a daughter Mrs. Blake (June) Carnahan of Reasnor, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Lela Roberts of Praire City, Iowa; Mrs. Henry (Vera) Steenhoek of Monroe, Iowa; Mrs. Joe (Hazel) Tomlonovic of near Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Freeman (Wilma) Hendricks of Reasnor, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Ed Franks, and a granddaughter. Mr. Berkenbosch was a member of the Methodist Church and the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He was a trucker and former employee of the Parsons and Maytag Companies in Newton. The son of Jacob Ward and LuCinda Wood Berkenbosch, he was born September 11, 1899, near Monroe, Iowa. He was married to Gladys Sheeler April 5, 1922, in Reasnor, Iowa. Mr. Berkenbosch had resided in Reasnor, Iowa for the past 41 years.
