Bio

Fern was born and raised on the Jacob and Lucinda Berkenbosch family farm northwest of Monroe, Iowa in Jasper County. She had one brother and four sisters. She attended country school and then graduated from Monroe High School in 1922. Fern was a country school teacher until she married. Fern married Charles Marion Kent Mar 14 1924 at Des Moines, Polk, Iowa. They divorced. Charles died in October 1978 in Minnesota per SSDI. Fern moved to Chicago and worked as a records clerk at MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn, Illinois. She and Ed Sokel were married Oct 28 1933 in Cook County, Illinois. After the death of Ed in 1946 she married Edwin Justin Franks.
