Mary Etta "Sallie" McNelly Windland was the daughter of Henry Franklin McNelly and Sarah Elizabeth McAnear. She married Marion William Windland 23 Dec 1917. They had one child, a daughter, Wynemah Deloyse Windland. They lived many years in Iraan, Texas in oil camp housing while Marion worked for an oil company. They moved in the 1940's to Eunice, New Mexico, again living in oil company camp housing. They moved to Midland, Texas in 1972. Mary Etta was only 4'10" tall and Marion was 6'2" tall. They made quite a pair. She loved to fish and every year, two or three related families got together and spent one to two weeks fishing on the Pecos River, Devils River or on the Gulf Coast. She was a cook for many years and loved to cook for family visits. Everything was from scratch, too. She always had a garden for fresh vegetables, peas and beans. She and her mother and niece, Mamie Jordan Thompson, would get together and crochet for hours at a time. In the summer, Sallie and Mamie would visit farms and gather fresh veggies. Then they would can them for delicious eating during the winter.
