They had 10 children: Mattie Adella, Nettie Ora, George Newton, Oscar Roy, Ernest W., Joseph Franklin, Bertha May, Mary Etta, Henry Fay, James Velmer "Shorty". She lived to be 98 years old and lived with her daughter, Bertha May, in her later years. She was only 4'9" tall and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren called her either "Little Granny" or "Granny Mac". She dipped snuff, spit in an old snuff can kept under her rocking chair in which she sat most of the time, wiped her mouth with a snow-white lace hanky and crocheted beautifully. In her younger years, she met Sitting Bull while traveling back to Texas from Kentucky where her step-father had taken her. They were traveling in a covered wagon and the small band of Indians just wanted water and food. While living in Texas as a small child, a band of Indians came to their house and took their horses. She was a true pioneer woman of her day. Sarah McNelly Graveside services for Mrs. S.E. McNelly, 98, were officiated by Rev. Davis Harrell.
