MOTHER OF SEVEN GROUND TO DEATH UNDER WHEELS OF TRAIN February 3, 1928 DAUGHTER RUNS FROM TRACKS TO SAFETY --------------------------------- Mrs. Ora Jordan Struck By Eastbound Extra freight; Is Killed Instantly ---------------------------------- Mrs. Ora Jordan, 43, wife of James Jordan, 642 China street, and mother of seven children, was struck and instantly killed by the Eastbound Texas and Pacific extra freight train, No. 543, at the West Texas Construction company crossing on Plum street, Friday morning at 7:45. Mrs. Jordan was employed at the Western Produce company, and was walking from home to work when the accident occurred. She was accompanied by her 14 year-old daughter, Lucille, who witnessed the tragedy. Girl Jumps to Safety A switch engine and two freight cars blocked the main railroad crossing and the mother and daughter passed around them and turned north stepping into the construction company crossing directly in front of the freight train. The young girl saw the train just in time to save her own life by jumping. Mrs. Jordan was knocked down and run over. Her body was badly mangled. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Chapel of the Laughter Undertaking company. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Besides her husband, Mrs. Jordan is survived by four daughters, Mamie, Estelle, Lucille, and Elsie; three sons, Clarence, Cecil and J. Frank; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth McNelly of Albany; a sister, Mrs. H. H. Lanier of Abilene and several other sisters and brothers. Mrs. McNelly was expected to come to Abilene for her daughter's funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Jordan and their children moved to Abilene from Denton county a few months ago.
