Bio

Joe Schutte, Sr., whose career ranged from farming to railroading to a livestock auctioneer, died Sunday at his home at 1013 Sidney Ave. He was 89. Rosary and scripture ser vices will be at 7 this evening at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Anthony's Church with burial in River side cemetery. Father James Kane is celebrant. He was born April 7, 1889, in Lawrence, Neb., a son of Herman and Marie Schroer Schutte. He married Olympe LeBlanc in Campbell,Neb.,on Nov.8, 1912. They moved to the Sterling area in 1914 and farmed around Merino, Atwood and Peetz until 1930, when they moved to Sterling. From 1943 to 1958, he worked as a storekeeper for the Chicago-Burlington and Quincy Railroad. He then retired and worked at the Sterling Livestock Commission as an auctioneer until 1975. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Survivors include his widow, Olympe, at home; seven sons, including Arthur Schutte,Greybull, Wyo.; Albert Schutte, Sheridan. Wyo.;Raymond Schutte, Leadville; Bernard Schutte,Spokane,Wash. ;GeorgeSchutte,Monroe,Wisc.; Bill Schutte,Windsor, Wise., and Joe Schutte, Jr., Denver; five daughters: Mrs. Dolares Albro, Bynum, Ala.; Mrs. Yvonne Fringer, Denver; Mrs. Genevieve Dale, Denver; Mrs. Vivian Raines, Goleta, Calif.;Mrs. Margaret Stewart,Laramie, Wyo.; six sisters:Mrs. Johanna Sughroe, In dianola, Neb.; Mrs. Kate Rempe, Nelson, Neb.; Mrs. Minnie Kimminau, Hastings,Neb.; Mrs. Mary Koh melscher, McCook, Neb.; Mrs.Louise Bassford, Cambridge, Neb., and Mrs. Lucille Spaulding, Benkelman, Neb.; 73 grandchildren, 80 great grand-children and three great great grandchildren.Visitation will be until 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Hettinger Funeral Home.The Hettinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
