JOSEPH HERMAN SCHUTTE Indianola (Special)— Joseph Herman Schutte, 83, resident of Indianola for the past 28 years, died at his home here Tuesday, Aug. 10 where he had been bedfast since April. He has been in ill health for several years. He and his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary only last month, July 3. Born in Engelern, Germany, Oct. 21, 1864, he came to the United States with his parents when only a year old. His family settled at St. Paul, Ia. where he lived until he was a young man. From there he moved to Lawrence, Nebr. where he married Mary Ann Grabenschroer July 3, 1888, in St. Stephen's Catholic Church. They lived on a farm in that vicinity until they retired and came to Indianola in 1920. Mr. Schutte is survived by his wife and ten children, six of whom live in southwest Nebraska. In addition to his children, he is survived by a total of 67 living grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Surviving children are: Frank, McCook; Johanna Sughroue, Indianola; Louise Trant, Cambridge; Lucille Spaulding, Benkelman; Rose Ostdiek, Benkleman; Joseph of Sterling, Colo.; Anna Rempe, Bostwick; Katie Rempe, Clarks; and Minnie Kimminau, Hastings. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday from St. Catherine's Catholic Church, and was conducted by the Rt. Rev. H.S. Haukap . Burial was made in St. Catherine's cemetery under the direction of the Herman Funeral Home of McCook. The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, August 26, 1948; pg. 1
